AN ASIDE

Some years back, in the middle of last century when I was a youngster, I remember passing a shop window in Bridport Street, Albert Park.
Workmen were in there carrying out renovations part of which had involved the removal of the linoleum flooring.
Under the lino they had discovered a whole lot of old newspapers used as 'underfelt'.
As was the custom in those days these newspapers were displayed stuck to the shop windows - the shop owner thinking they would create interest and thus attract more clientele.
I remember that some of these papers contained large, full page advertisments for a picture called "The Covered Wagon" and that artwork stayed indelibly etched in my mind.
I have seen bits of the film - but never the whole - probably because I am not now all that keen on Westerns even though as that youngster I enjoyed Hoppalong Cassidy and Roy Rogers.
